Meradalir Volcanic Eruption 2022 from air │ Iceland Photo Gallery

On 04-08-2022 at At 13:18, a volcanic eruption began in the western part of Merardälar, about 1.5 km north of Stóra-Hrút. The fire originates from a 360m-long fissure in the western side of Merardalahnjúk.
Meradalir are valleys on the Reykjaness Peninsula, east of Geldingadalir and were small clay flats before lava filled the valley in 2021. North of them are Meradalshlíðar and west of them is Kistufell. Meradalir lies lower than Geldingalir. On April 5, 2021, lava began to flow in Meradali, which came from a fissure that had opened the same day at Fagradalsfjall not far from where it originally began to erupt.
