The history of the development of Market Square in the city of Kalush, like Kalush itself, is an ancient one interesting Like most historical Ukrainian cities, Kalush belongs to little-explored urban planning heritage.
The city was founded in 1549, and the first mentions generally date back to the 13th century. Here
was a unique fortress at that time together with a castle and a rectangular market square area. It played the role of the main and only square in the city. Here there were weekly auctions of food and the sale of various handicraft items, and also salt.

However, the architectural and town-planning heritage of the period of the XVII-XVIII centuries. almost isn't visible in modern historical buildings. The historical building is unceasing destroy by replacing authentic windows with metal-plastic ones, complete replacement of doorways and arrangement of new ones for shops, painting in inappropriate color, etc.
Most people don't know that Kalush is royal a city that has a historic market square. It's boundaries have never been drawn in kind.
Therefore, creating a holistic perception of the area, detection is a mandatory condition
of cultural, architectural and, of course, urban planning value, and its own familiarization.
Since the regeneration of the square is a complex of measures, it was important to find a solution which would simultaneously cover the entire square and market quarters, but not affect it general perception and did not disturb the historical environment. The principle of showing "what was" should be reflected in all project decisions. Also necessary
the condition was in the pursuit of authenticity, not to make an urbanized, "living" wasteland for the sake of contemplating the preservation of historical buildings.
3 methods of addition were used:
1) Due to the impossibility and impracticality of reproducing the lost western
quarter and two intra-market buildings from the east, it is proposed to implement
characteristic paving
at the location of the likely location of the buildings.
2) For the rational use of the resulting inter-house space as a result of the complete loss of buildings, it was decided to include pavilion buildings there of the type that can be quickly assembled and disassembled accordingly.
It is constructed from typical elements, which involves changing the configuration and
cheapness. So, it's prefabricated and dismountable metal structures of the modular type (3x3m).
3) On the western side of Market Square are installed modular multi-purpose elements. They are prefabricated and collapsible frame. Located on site
historical lost quarters, thereby familiarizing them. Its volume is modular
don't burden the area and harmoniously fit into the environment. They can have both a recreational and entertainment function, as well as a fair function (farmer's market, food court, kiosk). They can be put in the desired combinations, that are necessary at a certain time
The main goal of this project is to reinforce the importance of conservation
of the historical area, namely Rynok Square (Market Square), it's significance in the development of the city, disclosure residents and guests of Kalush of this unique urban heritage.
