Hellboy - Colour Illustration and Black & White Sketch
After a very hectic start to the year and graduating from Northumbria University in July, the Summer of 2022 was a great time for me to relax, unwind and do a little casual drawing. I drew one of my all-time favourite characters from comic book literature; Mike Mignola's Hellboy. I’m really happy with how this illustration turned out. Leaning into the heavy shadows that contrast nicely with the blood-red skin, bright yellow eyes and musty brown jacket was tremendously fun — mimicking Mignola’s gothic noir style while still giving the character my own stylistic twist. I’d never drawn Hellboy before, so the next time around I can improve on this initial example and perhaps do a full-bodied illustration of the World’s Greatest Paranormal Investigator.
