David Schwartz's profile

Social Housing Propels House Affordability

As the co-founder of Slate Property Group, David Schwartz leverages over two decades of experience as a construction entrepreneur to oversee all construction projects for the firm. In addition to his role at Slate Property Group, David Schwartz serves on the boards of many New York-based organizations dedicated to constructing affordable housing.
Social housing is uniquely designed to reduce and stabilize housing prices by focusing on developing low- and medium-cost rental apartments as public utilities. The approach does not compromise quality for cost. Multiple social housing projects have produced quality houses with permanent price restrictions.
In the United States, low and middle-income earners face disproportionately high medium housing costs in the country. To assist these populations, which account for roughly 80 percent of all households in the country, elected officials have been collaborating with affordable housing developers in the hopes that these collaborations will increase the rate at which affordable houses become available in the country.
Another strategic effort to solve this problem looks to mandate more reasonable rent control. This approach led to the emergence of social housing projects.
