For more than 80 years of its 108 years PSV Eindhoven has sported, although with some differences, the same oval badge. Having this in mind and considering how well its structure fits within the needs of modern football branding, it's more than clear that what was appropriate for this project was a refresh instead of a total redesign.

The best way to approach this refresh was clearly the reworking of the different elements, and the main thing that needed to be adressed was the flag that in the current badge contains the PSV acronym. It takes unnecessary space, it means nothing in particular and it clashes with all of the other elements, so removing it does wonders on cleaning the look. Once that's done, a completely redesigned acronym - with more unique shapes and frendlier to surround with other elements - shines in the center and on a much bigger scale, with the importance it deserves.

Behind the acronym, the number of red stripes on the white background goes from 5 to 3, not only to simplify the overall but also taking inspiration from the city's flag. Meanwhile, in the outer golden ring, the foundation year is eliminated so the crown of reshaped minimalistic laurels goes all arround, finishing a badge that looks much more cleaner while retaining its essence.
