Project Details
In between larger projects I pitched the idea to design leather work gloves as a sidekick project. After getting the green light, I started looking across the market to identify failure points in competitor products. The design of the gloves addresses these common failure points through reinforcement and the use of sturdier 3mm leather. Working with our manufacturer we found the best process to ensure the right finish of the leather making them soft yet hard-wearing.
During the wet-blue phase of preparing the leather we worked with different oils and times to achieve the right appearance, and feel in hand. Next, we worked through the dyeing process to achieve our desired color and tested its resistance to abrasion and cuts. To ensure we arrived at the right recipe, we put our samples through the ringer. Small tweaks to construction were made based on the fits, and feedback received. Lastly, I designed the hang tag and paper bag container which the gloves are shipped in.
These gloves can be purchased here.
