Protection

This is a project that I did for my unit 3 course work at college. The project is based on 'Animal Poaching' so I had to think about the animals which have been poached for various reasons. I narrowed it down to 3 animals, the Tiger, Bear and Rhino.

I chose these 3 as they are being killed to the point of there being very few left on earth.

Through further research I found out that during the course of me doing this project the Black Rhino was hunted to extinction and are no longer found anywhere in the wild.

I wanted to try put across the message of these animals having no physical protection from humans, that is where the idea of using skulls as armour came in as this would be the tribal thing to do for physical protection. I also wanted to make the pieces make the audience think about what the images could mean instead of being straight to the point, this also makes the designs more desirable for use on t-shirts, skateboards and other mediums.

I designed the 3 pieces to work with each other in a triptych and create an interesting composition.

I decided to make the designs into stickers as they are a good way of promoting ideas and also appeal to people of all ages and are easily put up in places where people can see them.

I wanted to show that the designs are transferable to other materials such as these skateboard decks. This is good as they are aesthetically pleasing designs that also carry an important image.
