Before and after restoration:
Initial state:
The painting suffered from several unprofessional repairs. The ground and paint surface had numerous losses. The painting had a thin fixed stretcher frame. The canvas had a lot of tears and holes. During the previous repair, the canvas was lined with a wood glue that got to the colour layer on the front side of the painting. The back side had labels and stickers.
Done:
The old fixed stretcher has been replaced with the new movable one with keys. Paint surface was consolidated, original weakened canvas was unlined. The back side was cleaned of old glue, labels and stickers were removed, tears fixed. The canvas was lined again. Paint surface was consolidated, cleaned of dirt, old glue and yellowed varnish. The painting was varnished and retouched.
