Columbus Monthly
Associate Art Director | 2016–2022
Columbus Monthly focuses on local civic, cultural and restaurant scenes with comprehensive guides, authoritative reviews and in-depth news features. In 2018, it was named the best city magazine in the country for its circulation size by the City and Regional Magazine Association (CRMA).

I contributed to Columbus Monthly as an Associate Art Director by designing covers, features and occasionally some front of book stories.

Feature: 10 Best Restaurants | November 2017
Every year Columbus Monthly recognizing the 10 best new restaurants in the city. This package is often a challenging puzzle with many elements to organize.

Feature: Splat! | August 2017
This is one the the quirkiest features I've had the pleasure to work on. The story is about a political activist's attempt to pie Gov. Jim Rhodes at the 1977 Ohio State Fair. In addition to the layout, I created the pie spot illustrations as story breaks. The opening spread was shot in our studio by Tim Johnson.

Illustrations
I've had the opportunity to play with illustrations while working on Columbus Monthly.

I created a pie design for the 2017 Tastemakers cover, which the talented bakers at Bake Me Happy were able to use as a template for our cover shot.

The Love Columbus Style feature opener is a mix of hand drawn elements and Photoshop.

Guess Who was a team effort. Maya Jenkins illustrated the candidates, Tim Johnson photographed the Guess Who board and I colored Maya's illustrations and incorporated them into the image using Photoshop.

Feature: Life with Larry | February 2020
Before then-Ohio House Speaker Larry Householder was arrested on bribery charges, Columbus Monthly wrote a feature about his relationship with Democrats in the Statehouse. I created this photo illustration opening spread using multiple file images and Photoshop.
