Physics Of Matter Intro

Physics Of Matter Intro:

I was invited lately to hold a seminar about... you guessed it, photorealism.
I took that as a push to redo my whole presentation to make it even more complete and insert explanatory videoclips where I can.

What came out of that is a massive 315 slide presentation. Within the presentation after the introduction, I wanted to make an intro to the main topic “Physics of Matter”. Since I am a long time fan of Neon Lights I decided to  go with the flow and stick with the well tried neon sign (you might have noticed older workshops using neons e.g.
AIXCADEMY)

This time I did go into more Details than ever before. Especially in shader work.
For example by carefully adjusting the regions around the cathodes / anodes to flicker.
Making the sings slightly swing on its thin holder structure.
Everything was modelled and rigged in Cinema 4Drendered in Octane in ACEScg and then comped in After Effects.

The Scene was rendered twice. Once with the environment lights and another time with all the different neon lights separated into passes. This allowed for very fine control of the environment light as well as animating turning on and off the individual neons.
I hope you enjoy.

Rendering Specs:
Renderd in FullHD (Ulscaled to 4K)
Rendertime was about 2-5min / Frame on 4 RTX 3090
Rendered in ACEScg
Linear EXRs were used to transport the renders to Comp.

Shoutouts:
Lukas Guziel for his devotion creating the Audio for the project
Cornelius Dämmrich for being good friends and motivated me throughout the project.
Ahmet Oktar for his continuous support and development of Octane C4D.
Aixterior for their cool assets of which I used the rock to the right.

Small Node: Since Vimeos quality of service in my opinion is constantly declining over the last years in future posts the linked videos will come from YouTube. You can write me if you know of a good alternative to Vimeo.

ALL LIGHTS BREAKWODN
Every light in the scene was put into its own pass, to intuitively create the final mood in the compositing stage without rerendering.
WIREFRAME RENDER
Every light in the scene was put into its own pass, to intuitively create the final mood in the compositing stage without rerendering. This is a render where the swinging motion of the neon has been intensified by a factor of 10. It gives a better impression about the xpresso rig that was created.
