This project is part of a final University project entitled, "Service and system design", whereby we worked with City of York council on a live brief where we had the task of introducing a new service or improving an existing service that would "reinvigorate" York.
Thorough research was conducted to see what the residents and tourists that visit York thought about the City currently and what could be improved in terms of existing services. Many people felt that the overall tourist information service was inadequate with limited access to information such as maps and event information.
The study then decided to work on a "pop-up" tourist information booth that would be situated in key tourist areas of York. The design of the booth would be flat pack to be easily assembled and disassembled when other events are on in York such as markets, music events, festivals etc.
The inspiration for this design came from working with sustainable modular housing and expanding on these areas to produce a product/service that could be used for other means. i.e. tourist information.
