Originally, I had drawn vertical lines on the sides and swirled around, making it look like a whirlpool. Then I went with a large brush horizontally, creating a sand look. Thought I might add some kind of sand city but my mind wandered to familiarity.

When I lived on Long Island, I would be at the beach frequently during the Summer into Fall. The sound of the waves crashing. The wind off the water bringing the salty smell to me. Cooling off in the water or resting in the small tent when it would get too hot on my skin. The lighthouse was always in view.

Although this is not precise to the view we would’ve had, I worked a lighthouse into the background of this digital drawing. After attempting a print with the gray version, I changed the color to a sepia tone to bring warmth to the art.
