Description of brief:

Design and build a microsite to promote the launch of the new product addition to Oreo. The Salted caramel and Chocolate Oreo (the grown-up cookie).

Explanation of the concept and design strategy:

The concept addresses the challenge because it encourages people to snack healthily. The goal of the design was to build a microsite to promote the launch of a new addition to the product range of Oreo: Salted Caramel and Chocolate. To increase brand awareness, engage with the audience on a personal level, and to show in what creative ways the new biscuit can be used. The target audience is all adults, 18 years and above, by attracting them through content that is relevant to them including, adults who require a quick snack, who want to experiment the biscuits with alcohol, who wants to eat cookies with lower calories, and is less substantial.

Rationale for including it:

For the design, I created a microsite to promote the launch of Oreo's new addition to the product range, the salted caramel, and chocolate Oreo grown-up cookie. It is a new “thin” biscuit that is lower in calories and less rich than the classic Oreo sandwich even though it tastes the same but is a little crispier. The design is specifically aimed towards “grown-ups”, 18 years of age and above who require a quick snack, who want to experiment with the biscuits with alcohol and a variety of recipes, who wants to eat cookies with lower calories, and is less substantial.

I decided for my microsite to give Oreo a different visual style that is still playful due to the classic Oreo logo and its rounded fonts and images. I created a design that showcases my style and strengths as a designer. I wanted to create a tone that is a bit more elegant, modern, minimalistic, and exciting to show how innovative Oreo is and that they always take the emotions and needs into consideration of their consumers.

I achieved this by making the overall theme darker by using colours such as black/grey, white, and salted caramel/ gold colours. I made sure to keep the colour palette consistent to give it a mature feeling and to make it visually appealing. The colour scheme was also used to enhance the appeal of the product itself, to look like the salted caramel and chocolate cookie, matching my style as a designer. There is salted caramel and chocolate Oreos scattered all over the page to create a sense of want and to promote the product.

The font “Swear Display”, “Jadeline”, and “Jadeline Serif” are fonts that I made use of to give it a sense of professionalism and sophistication to make it more appealing to adults and was used consistently to make it visually appealing. The slogan and taglines were used because it is some of Oreos' most well-known sayings.

I added a splash of “Oreo Cookie Shot” at the bottom of each second page to create a consistent style, and to showcase that Oreo is still the same brand that is fun and playful even when “growing-up”.

I lastly added in some prototyping to make the microsite scroll. The corners of the navigation bars, and buttons are rounded off to fit the Oreo logo font for a playful and smooth feel. The Oreo logo mark at the top left is used to go back to the home screen of the microsite. I added navigation bars to easily navigate between the pages to ultimately create a better user experience.
