Bogota, Colombia

The riverbed of Río Arzobispo in Bogota is restored from a gutter-like road divider and changed into the core of a whole new neighbourhood.

The two-layered project simplifies the existing infrastructure, adds a new level to the city and enlivens it with a diverse programme.
It is composed as a series of spaces unfolding one step at a time, formed with modular elements within the riverbed – walls and hosts.
To maximalize the use of space, the project hosts most of its programme underneath the street, opening the river core fully to the public.
The dense commercial areas close to the main streets and the loosely arranged housing in the middle part are punctuated by ‘pillow spaces’,
where the whole focus is oriented towards the experience of space and nature.

The river and its restored ecosystem are celebrated throughout the project in their many forms, allowing for a variety of water experience.
Celebrated is also the soil found on site, now transformed into the richly textured rammed-concrete structure.
