amizh Consonants | “Uyir-Mei Ezhuthukkal” (Compound letters) | ங் Varisai | ங

Syllables in the ங் varisai don’t occur too often in Tamizh currently and it looks like a lot of words have been lost over time. For example, think of the word “ஙனம்”(ngaṉam s. place, room, இடம்) I am told people used to sign off on letters/correspondences using இங்ஙனம் (ingngaṉam   இங்ஙன், adv. in this place, here) which is barely used today in conversational Tamizh and how many of us even write letters anymore? I am not a Tamizh scholar by any means, I do this out of my love for the language to learn more through the making. So, please feel free to correct me. I take no offense.

Words do not start with the uyir-mei ‘ங’ ezhuthu. This is a compound syllable created ங் + அ and pronounced as ṅa. As this is not a commonly used syllable, I would likely not have accompanying music and movies for this set. Most of the words in this varisai are created with other syllables and the pure consonant (e.g., ங்க is a common occurrence and is pronounced together as ṅga like the ing in ‘bingo’)
