These flag redesigns were made to improve the image of the US states of Washington and Mississippi. The flag of Washington consist of a green field, the same used on the current flag with a stylized "W" letter that symbolizes mountains and the landscape of the state as well. The flag of Mississippi was made as a reaction to the controversial former flag of Mississippi, which included a divisive symbol. The flag contains a stylized magnolia, that was inspired by the state nickname of Mississippi: "The Magnolia State."
