ABC's of AAPI's Coloring Book
The true power of art lies in its flexibility of purpose. Self-expression, decoration, activism, documentation, there are so many reasons why people create art. But, the most beautiful, to me, is when art offers perspective and education.
.
The Atlanta Spa Shootings prompted @naharahyoh and @kavi.vu to have conversations around community and vision. Ultimately, they kept coming back to how it might be possible to instill a sense of belonging, responsibility, and hope, specifically in children, in a way that was accessible and engaging.
.
So, they coordinated a project with 20 Atlanta Asian-American creators, @asianaaf, and @colorATL to provide coloring books that would celebrate Asian American Pacific Islander stories. After much research, drawing, and designing, their project is now available to share.
.
They'll be launching the book with an @atlantabeltline installation reveal party, just in time for AAPI Heritage Month.
.
60% of the books will be going to schools and non-profit organizations, but folks will be able to get a book with a donation to the AAAF.
Proud to rep some important Filipino-American history. I drew P for Philip Vera Cruz
