Gustav's Bestiary (thesis)

Project: Gustav’s Bestiary (thesis)
Student Work: UMSL 2014  //  Instructor: Gretchen Schisla

Gustav’s Bestiary is not your average bed-time story…at least not one to read your kids. It is a collection of tales about 12 morbidly grotesque and fiendishly mischievous beasts from all over the world as told by our eccentric narrator, Gustav Ludwig Johannes-Dietrich IV. This 36-page book was written, illustrated, and designed by me for my senior thesis, and is accompanied by a poster series, pin back buttons, bookmarks, and an in-page scrolling website. Gustav’s Bestiary is an exploration in character design and story-telling. The book is not yet available for purchase, but here is a sample of the artwork for the each of the beasts.
