Interactive book about Minerals

The Museum of Minerals on base Sergo Ordzhonikidze Russian State University for Geological Prospecting (MGRI) — one of the largest Moscow's mineralogical collections.  Its exposition has more than 4,000 exhibits. Among them there are precious metals and rare minerals.

The objective of the project was created as an interactive textbook about minerals which allows students to get acquainted with the museum's collection while remote studies. It was important to adapt the application for students with hearing and vision problems.

15 3D models of minerals from the museum's collection were created by 3D scanning technology. Each chapter is accompanied by professor's lectures.

For the visually impaired, below is the name of the mineral in Braille, at the pronunciation of which the application launches an audio guide.

The "Minerals" Project is important not only as a new way of obtaining information, but also as an opportunity to visit a museum without physically being in it, which has become especially relevant in connection with Covid19. The results of the study can be used to create popular science publications with an augmented reality function for other museums.
