The Book of Boba Fett Poster

This poster was a passion project and homage to the classic western, “The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly,” reimagining the movie with the cast of the Star Wars show, “The Book of Boba Fett,” with Billy Perkin's TGTBTU poster acting as the main inspiration for this pastiche. The project was a lot of fun to work and iterate on, and was a wonderful opportunity to try some type exploration and come up with ideas for a new typeface for the Star Wars language of Aurebesh.
The project started with a mood board encompassing a lot of pre-existing western media. This was great to capture aesthetics, color palettes, and typeface.
From there, I did some type exploration, and after some time with different western and wood-block style fonts, decided that the more compressed style of those vintage typefaces didn’t quite feel right with the heavier industrial feel of Star Wars.
I used Antique Tuscan 8 as a base to recreate the letters necessary for the poster in Adobe Illustrator, borrowing mostly from the serifs and line weight of the original font.
Additionally, I did some textural exploration of chipped metal and paint in order to reproduce the weathered, lived-in feel of the Star Wars universe of the edges of various frames around the poster.
These textures were made in illustrator by image tracing various images of rust and chipped paint and expanding the result. After that I pick and chose parts of the image trace to use as cutouts on the other elements of the layout.
