Making of "Anomaly"

First, I created the geometry with Moment of Intuition 2.0. The grey item is the background, the yellow one is a light emitter and the brightly-coloured items are the ones we are really interested in.
The picture below is the first rendering result that I got with Octane Render. It looks pretty good, but the light highlights are burned white, which I do not like. So, I had to create another image to fix the highlight problem.
Below is the cover layer. The colours are washed out, and it does not look so good, but the details are well preserved in the highlight areas.
Then, as the final step I added the cover layer on top of the original image as "darken layer", and made that layer about 60% transparent. That led to the final result.
