Brackets of Ahmedabad
A glimpse into decorative art and embellishments in
Havelis, Traditional Pol House of Ahmedabad
A bracket is an architectural element and structural member. They can be made of wood, stone, or metal — that projects from a wall to support or carry weight. Stone-masonry brackets are known as corbels. A bracket is also defined as a decorative or weight-bearing structural element of two sides, of which form a right angle with one side against a wall and the other under a projecting surface. Brackets can support many architectural items, including a: wall, balcony, parapets and eaves, the spring of an arch, ceiling beam and other beams, pergolaroof, window box, and a shelf. Ornamental Art in Architecture, in addition to enhancing the beauty of structures, also shares the narratives that form a significant part of our heritage. The exquisite details highlighted here reveal the finesse, precision and creativity of many of craftsmen and their patrons. City Heritage Collection attempts to document and popularise the unique Heritage of our cities and their protection for our future generations.
