Argos "So stylish you can wear it!" AR Filter

Having seen our So Stylish You Can Wear It ad - I quickly prototyped a Instagram filter to tie in and showed it to the client team.

One thing lead to another and I got the go ahead to create a full version.
This ended up being one of the most enjoyable and challenging projects I’ve worked on, creating every single part of the project on my own - from 3D models and actual filter to the social media posts.
Social Content

Once the filter was created and working - I worked with a copywriter to create two social posts. One in-feed post which featured a full tutorial on how to access the filter, and one Instagram Stories post which used a swipe up to access the filter.

The client team also worked with Suki Waterhouse to post a video with her using the filter, encouraging her followers to try it out.
The Techie Bits

I was new to using SparkAR, and I had never used a 3D program in my commercial work before, so there was a lot to take on here. Below are a few images that show the process of building a fairly complex Instagram Filter.

I created two 3D models - one drawer and one lampshade. Ensuring the models were highly optimised was incredibly important to keep performance consistent, and I made clever use of baked in shadowing to add depth to the models.

The filter included a switcher UI to change between the objects, interactivity (the drawer would open on a tap of the screen, and the lampshade would “turn on”) as well as face retouching.
