Mine focuses on typography in Austria at the turn of the 19th to 20th century. Habsburg politics stood in conflict to Europe's rapid modernization, and art and design movements arose in Vienna in response to Emperor Franz Joseph's unwillingness to adapt.
The Secessionists and modern-minded creatives began to transform Vienna. Though Austria isn't much considered a source of typographic inspiration today, there were advancements in ornamental lettering and typographic teachings that should not go ignored.
