Gestalt Theory Exhibition

Gestalt theory, optical illusions and trickery of the eye has always been something that interested me, and how the brain responds to images. The brain can process images faster & better than the eye creating subconsious conclusions.  Within this project I explored these theories extensively and materials such as transparent perspex to create shadows which trick the eye. Along with the 3 main peices, I created t-shirts which I sold on the opening night. I also sold framed prints of the fashion shots showcasing the t-shirts & sold the main peice (on perspex.

For this piece I used Lino which I printed onto cartidge paper that i had also hand cut with a curved scalpel. I layered the papers with foam dividers. I wanted to hand cut everything so it would have an inperfect look and feel about it which you might not usually find in Optical Illusions.
The peice above received the most attention. Many asked 'What does it say in the circle?'.. which is ironic as it says ''There isnt a circle here, but I GESTALT you'll see one''

I sold this piece on the opening night, after a few bids I went with the one I felt would display it best, it now hangs outside the director of the University of Bolton's office next to a glass wall reflecting the light the piece needs.
