My name is Sasha, I'm from Kharkiv, this is a wonderful city in the east of Ukraine, hospitable, well-maintained and clean, WITH beautiful people, laughter, music and life itself.
For three months now, my Kharkiv has been bombed by the Russian army. The outskirts of the city are destroyed by artillery salvos, and in the center of the city, architectural monuments are destroyed by cruise missiles. My family is in the city. All my life in this city.
Now the eyes of the whole world are turned to Ukraine, I feel endless support and empathy. Talking with many foreign colleagues, I realized that people in general are not very familiar with Ukrainian culture, there is a strong lack of even recognizable clichés that would be clearly associated with our country.
I wanted to create a series of projects that could convey the palette of colors, smells, tastes of Ukraine, so that looking at the picture you could hear the crunch of bread or the smell of apples heated by the sun, feel the gust of wind over the endless fields of sunflowers and wheat under a clear blue sky. To acquaint the viewer with what Ukraine is for me. Maybe not completely, but to convey this feeling of being here, to share the spirit of Ukraine.
Ukraine is beautiful cozy cities, with street musicians, fountains, cafes and bars near which noisy groups of young people gather, with embankments and the coolest parks.
Ukraine is festive feasts, happy laughter, songs and dances until the morning and quiet heart-to-heart talks on the balcony. Fun trips to Odesa for the weekend or to Lviv for a concert of your favorite band or just a feeling of calm and security in your native Kharkiv.
For me, Ukraine is very talented people, smart and sensitive, very real. This is an incredible feeling when the whole country unites in one impulse, when everyone is ready to give their all. We protect each other, help each other, for us every missle hitting every city is a missle that hits our own heart. Because now we are one.
Ukraine is freedom!
