The term "cymatics" was coined by Hans Jenny in the 1960s, a physician and natural scientist who used the term to describe the effects of sound vibration on matter.

To make these photographs, I placed a liquid mixture on a plate on top of a speaker and experimented with different frequencies as patterns started to form in the liquid. Different patterns emerge depending on the driving frequency. These patterns are a visual manifestation of standing waves, which form as the liquids arrange themselves in resonant patterns according to places of stillness and vibration.
