'Dig' Preliminary Game Concept

'Dig' is a concept for a 2D stratergy game based in a post-apocalyptic society on an isolated island. The player is armed with a shovel and attempts to unearth the truth behind a totalitarian government and their world through archeology. The idea for the game itself is heavily based on archeology.
The core gameplay loop is inspired by other turn-based games such as 'Plague Inc' by Ndemic Creations, and involves the player travelling around and taking the time to dig at various sites to find the infomation needed to deliver to a resistance agent. The player wouldn't be purely limited to just unearthing artifacts however, they would also be able to talk to other citizens of the island, potentially finding valuable infomation to continue their quest. However, each action that the player takes (wether that be through talking, digging or travelling) takes time, and the longer they take the more likely they are to be caught and imprisoned.
