Bloome - A toolbox for mental health

As a dissertation project for my master in Visual and Innovation Design I designed a toolbox to take care of your mental well-being.

The problem
Lack of education towards taking care of one's mental well-being and tools for maintenance. Physical health is considered more important than mental health. Why?
Analyses
I submitted a questionnaire to 180 people, asking about the state of their mental well-being. These are the most salient answers.

Solution
Offer tools, physical and digital, that help the person in the awareness and importance of taking care of their mental well-being, which is not absence of ailments but an optimal condition for living a peaceful life in all its aspects.

Goals
- Be aware of the importance of taking care of your mental health.
- Offer tools for prevention and maintenance of an optimal state of well-being.
- Talk about mental health to destigmatize and normalize the topic.

Concept
It is when we understand the importance of self-care and our well-being that we begin to flourish. Flourishing as an act of self-discovery and self-knowledge.

Ways to take care of your mental well-being
I have identified six different areas to take care of your mental well-being: know yourself, take care of your body, disconnect, discover creativity, cultivate relationships and practice meditation.

The calendar is a fundamental part of the box: the person can organize their week, choosing the areas of well-being to dedicate time to.

Customization
The one shown above is only one available model of Bloome Box. In fact, it can be composed of different modules and with different tools, designed for each area of well-being.

The products are:
- know yourself: journal, cards for emotions, reminder;
- take care of your body: cards for body care, skin masks, elastic bands;
- disconnect: guide for plants, consolation kit, relaxation kit;
- discover creativity: white puzzle, coloring book;
- cultivate relationships: memo cards;
- practice meditation: candles, stress ball.

The digital media are also divided into areas of well-being and are:
- know yourself: podcasts on topics such as wellbeing and mental health;
- take care of you body: video playlist for physical activity;
- disconnect: natural sound playlist, music playlist shared with community;
- discover creativity: useful sites for developing new skills, video playlists for DIY;
- cultivate relationships: voice or messaging chats to talk about topics you can choose (peer sharing rooms), video calls with discussions on topics you can choose, be part of a proactive online community;
- practice meditation: video playlist with breathing techniques, video playlist for mindfulness or yoga practice, online video links to practice with experts.
