Transformations of the Ukrainian East is a collection of essays in which an attempt is made to look at six towns of the east through the prism of identity, urbanistics, and culture, to exchange observations, to reproduce processes, and to consider the results of artistic and architectural interventions, as well as to model possible scenarios for the spatial and cultural development of these towns. This book is the result of the work of the multidisciplinary team.
The book is a collection of 5 types of different essays that repeats for each of six cities. So one of the design purposes was to bring clear navigation. Every city marked by it's colour, every type of essay has it's own style of chapter divider. The table of content has a "matrix" system, that aloud reader to read by the author or by the city.
The book contains texts in two languages: Ukrainian and English. They go in parallel but varies in font boldness. Every chapter has a specific illustration that reflects the messages from essays itself. Highlight with black underline helps reader to get main idea not going deeper into the text. Each page has a navigation mark that gives information about the author, topic and the city essay is about.
Maybe the most complicated part of the book design was to collect and systematise all the materials including photos from the field trips, notes, video documentation etc. to create an objective and detailed view at the project which last for 2 years.
