St. Mary's Basilica Poster

For this project, I designed a poster for a place in Arizona of my choice, which was St. Mary's Roman Catholic Basilica in downtown Phoenix.
To start the project, I went to the Basilica during a morning Mass where I took photos of various parts of the church and drew the aspects that I thought to be visually and artistically important and memorable. The most notable parts of the Basilica is the architecture and stained-glass windows, both of which were striking and beautiful. Because of this, I decided to make them the primary focus of the poster's design.
The final image of the poster is based on looking at a stained-glass window through the pillars while inside the church. I felt that it made the overall design more immersive, as it's the most immersive part of seeing the inside of the basilica. The window itself depicts the façade of the church, with the sun illuminating behind it. This was inspired by seeing the sun rise near the church before the Mass began, as I felt it visually and metaphorically captured the essence of what the church represents.  Finally, a serif typeface was used on top of the poster as well as the window itself, showcasing the name of the basilica and the tagline "Be in Heavenly Space."
