The Timestream
A Historical and Cultural Themed Centre
Project developed by Ain Shams Faculty of Engineering students:
Hana Hazem, Sara Tayseer, & Yassmen Khalid
The project is based in Al Darrasa area in Cairo. It was set to be an investment project of 89 feddan to improve and uplift the area there. The main theme of the project is cultural based on the context surrounding the land that includes many historical sites including El moez street and the Cairo Gates.
The concept
When observing historical places and monuments in Egypt, it was found that the places were showcased as they were, and monuments were placed behind clear glass containers; i.e they were showcased as standalones, unconnected to one another. The truth is they are are connected, history is connected, and this is where the idea was born. The main aim of the project is to allow people to experience the past eras of Islamic Egypt by creating a singualr experience. The lines of the project were created with this thought in mind, to allow the rich history of the Islamic eras to unfold before the user by following a clear path and enclosed spaces. The user will be following a set of landmarks which are uniwue to each of the chosen Islamic eras.
