My first brand identity design of a Portuguese fusion of Egg Tart & Bar that targets the young generation and plans to open in Florence, Italy. The client's request of the branding is young, energetic, and presents appropriate portions of the Portuguese culture.
The name ovo came from a Portuguese word that means egg being one of the main ingredients of egg tart. The bracket symbolized the crust of a tart, and it could also be the faces of the ovo, which created a symbolic mascot with its personality for the brand. It adds brand recognition, and the simplicity attracts young markets.
I designed some illustrations and iconic Portuguese azulejo, but with modern designs tailored to Ovo instead of traditional. Which is used in the food packaging and possible poster or decorative design in the future. Using the previous illustration designed, I created few stickers to help to enhance brand recognition. The sticker follows the same color scheme and uses the logo as an emoji, which adds to the young and fun personality of the brand.
My client was satisfied with the overall brand identity, and their favorite was the illustration and the logo. The only dissatisfactions were the color and target audience; the color was too vibrant for their preference, as they later thought the target group between 18-29 would be too restricted. The design may apply to other age groups, but the impact of colorful design would less efficient. So later, I would look into finding ways to make adjustments to the design. I learned a lot through this experience, as this is my first ever brand identity design. I have discovered the importance of early-stage communication and providing options for various directions instead of one. As I believe the designer's role wasn't only to complete the task for the client but also offering different ways of thought to help the client with creative ideas.
