Salinas Lacrosse Club
Salinas Lacrosse Club is a team under the umbrella of Lacrosse The Bay (LTB). My clients are starting a non-profit youth lacrosse club in the bay. Salinas is one of the areas that they are starting with to build this organization. This means they needed their own identity that was separate from LTB. Their goal was to use local marine or terrestrial animals to be the mascot for each area, for Salinas we chose the  California Condor.
The issues that arose during this design process had to do with the balance of friendliness and competitiveness. Being that the club was intended for youth players, my client wanted to keep the icon cartoonish and playful, but also wanted to convey a sense of fighting spirit. Another goal was to keep the production of any team merchandise or collateral cheap to produce, since this was a start up their budget was a concern to them.

Salinas Lacrosse Club Word Mark
For the Salinas word mark the goal was to use the text warp to create the subtle appearance of a bird standing in front of you with its wings spread. Halftones are used as simple brand element, specifically because the way they fade away provides an opportunity to create a sense of flight or motion.
