According to Slavic beliefs, both birds arrive in the garden on the eve of the Apple Savior. Sirin is a messenger of sadness, longing for a lost paradise. Her singing is dangerous and destructive. Alkonost is a messenger of joy and happiness. Her singing endows the fruits with magical, healing properties.
Sirin is all turned into the past, Alkonost is all in the future. Both bird-maidens are one and indivisible - the eternal companions of every person's life.

Горе и радость, несчастье и счастье, смерть и жизнь...
По народному сказанию, утром на Яблочный Спас прилетает в яблоневый сад дева-птица Сирин, которая тоскует и плачет. Ее пение опасно и разрушительно. После полудня ее сменяет птица Алконост - светлый вестник радости и счастья. Она смахивает с крыльев живую росу и дарует плодам в саду целительную силу.
Сирин обращена в прошлое, Алконост в будущее. Обе птицы-девы едины и неделимы. Они вечные спутницы жизни каждого человека.
