PSA Poster Campaign: Historical Building Preservation
Project Description
For this project, I created a series of three posters for a PSA campaign. I had the freedom to chose a topic, and I have chosen historical building preservation. I’ve referred to the National Trust for Historic Preservation for a majority of my research and inspiration.

About Historic Building Preservation
The Preservation Movement began in the early 1900s as a result of many historical buildings being demolished to pave the way for commercial buildings, offices, and even parking lots. Many American citizens pushed for saving and restoring historical sites and buildings to preserve our history. The most famous preservation case was in 1926 with the preserving and restoring of Williamsburg, Virginia. Historical sites from buildings to battlegrounds keeps our country’s history alive. Williamsburg is now a popular tourist spot. The federal government passed the Historical Sites Act in 1935 where the National Park Service is able to purchase historical sites for their preservation and restoration. An organization called the National Trust for Historic Preservation was formed in 1949 which works to save historical places around America.

Preserving America’s historical sites is still an issue today as the economy grows and urbanizes further. Much of our history is learned from studying the way humans lived in the past, a large part being our homes and workplaces. The demolishing of historical buildings erases important parts of our history permanently. This is the kind of history that cannot be rebuilt. The goal of this PSA poster campaign is to spread awareness of the importance of preserving historical buildings in the face of threats from our changing physical landscape due to economical urbanization.
