TGYLMCOYC: A BROCKHAMPTON Retrospective

IT ALL STARTED with a post on a Kanye West fan forum...
In 2015, high school friends Kevin Abstract (Ian Simpson) and Ameer Vann decided to recruit a rap collective because, in Abstract’s words, “I had no friends”. Named after the street Abstract grew up on in Corpus Christi, Texas, the new, self-proclaimed “Best Boyband Since One Direction” set out to redefine the term - a collective of gay, straight, black, white, all-inclusive, ambitious would-be pop stars. With a roster of over 15 members at its peak (designers, videographers, and effects crew included), BROCKHAMPTON went on to release six studio albums between 2016 and 2021. Perhaps their most notable work was 2017’s Saturation trilogy, a collection of 48 tracks which garnered mainstream recognition and well-deserved hype.

The group announced an "indefinite hiatus" in January 2022. Their once-bright future is now shrouded in mystery.

This is their story.
