Salamandra Cinema - Branding

Salamandracine (a play on words in Spanish: sala = room or hall, salamandra = salamander, and cine=cinema) is a Chilean distributor and exhibitor of independent Latin American films. They're mission is to promote the voices of emerging or criminally overlooked Latin American filmmakers both within the region and to the rest of the world in a film market that is dominated by major international media conglomerates. They frequently hold film screenings in unusual locations coupled with food and beverages from same country as the film, creating a fully immersive cultural experience that is part party, part art experience, and a little bit guerilla (even if when an embassy might be footing the bill).

The challenge was to make something that was professional enough that filmmakers could trust they'd found a competent partner, and DIY enough to maintain credibility as an arbiter of the fresh and new. The simple, versatile mark and palette (derived from a salamander skin) can be used vertically or horizontally, with a solid flood of color or as a knockout, creating dozens of possible expressions.
