A family with three children expanded their home and asked me to design the new space.

We created a beautiful and functional interior with a focus on natural materials and a healthy indoor climate.

We gave the kitchen + island a central place in the room. The kitchen cabinets consist of circular panels from Circular Matters, the worktop is recycled rubber wood. We choose raw brass for the splashback. Raw brass is a circular material that can be recycled endlessly. The kitchen tap and sink are also in this material. Raw brass will develop a beautiful and natural patina over time and use.

The new stairway is made out of perforated steel with stairs in recycled rubberwood.

In line with the kitchen cabinets, there is a spacious pantry, which can be closed off with a large sliding wall.

We created a sunken seating area with space for a small workstation. The stairs leading to the seating area are covered with raw steel and the carpet is Cradle-to-Cradle.

The walls are covered with natural earthplaster. Earthplaster is a wall finish with a unique texture and colour. It is recyclable, compostable, reusable, non-toxic and regulates the humidity in the room. It is one of the most durable and healthy wall finishes.

The oak floor (FSC label) with energy-efficient underfloor heating provides pleasant heating.
