Odyssey 2021

Object, plush, and styrofoam, 2021
180cmx100cm

Wanting to awaken a state of calmness and snuggedness, and alleviate the symptoms of anxiety in modern society, I sew a lazy bag in the shape of a uterus that allows the visitor to sit comfortably inside the uterine wall and begin his oneiric journey. I deliberately choose plush as a material that awakens tactility and a sense of organic. This object appears as a kind of escapism. Unlike the famous Russian artist Ilya Kabakov, who conveys his kind of escape from Soviet everyday life with the installation "The Man Who Flew Out of His Apartment into Space" (1981-88), where he "launches" a rocket from his room, and behind him all that remains is a gaping hole in the roof, broken dishes, remnants of furniture; I call for a stay, but curled up and embedded in the walls of the uterus. My kind of escapism does not require movement and action. It is a snug lulling into our inner being and the search for it.
