About

GYMES is a free mobile app for gymnasts and artistic gymnastics. The application contains the entire base of Code of Points gymnastic elements and helps you quickly find the right element. An athlete can upload his videos with the performance of gymnastic elements and find out his percentage of mastering gymnastics. Also, any gymnast, coach or just a gymnastics lover can watch uploaded videos and learn from them.

Idea & Goal

The main idea was to create an algorithm that would calculate the percentage of mastering gymnastics based on all existing elements in the Code of Points database. This base for artistic gymnastics is divided into Men's Artistic Gymnastics and Women's Artistic Gymnastics. Further, these two categories contain elements for each of the gymnastic apparatus for men and women. The main goals were to help gymnasts in finding elements for training, to create a large database of videos and to unite all the gymnasts of the world into one community, to create their own useful social network for them.

Project timeline

GYMES is a startup made by a small team. There was a research that showed that there is no analogue of such an application and that many gymnasts would be interested in it. Then the team drew all the logic of the application and found developers. The main task of the designer was to develop a simple user-friendly interface and visual part of the brand. At the prototype stage, important changes and additions were made. The next task was to make visuals for social networks to attract the necessary audience even before the launch of the application. After the GYMES application was released in the App Store and Google Play, for the pages of which it was necessary to make the design.

Functional map

In order to use the application, the user must register or log in. After that, it gets to the Feed main page. The main thing in the application is the menu, which contains all the necessary tabs. Each user has his own profile, which stores all his videos and shows the percentage of mastering gymnastics on each apparatus and in general. All tabs are simple and clear, the user intuitively understands where he needs to click to perform the necessary actions.

Logotype & Icon

It was decided to combine the text part of the application name with the image of a lightning symbol in the logotype. Lightning is an expressive sign of strength, speed, movement. Lightning reflects the idea of the power that you can show everyone in the application and the speed of using the application. The logo can be used in both white and black versions.
The orange lightning remains the same in all versions of the logo. Application icons were used in 3 versions - black, white and orange.

Typography & Colors

Myriad Pro became the main font in the application. It is used in various styles. For advertising and social networks, the Montserrat font is used in various styles. These are simple, concise and readable fonts. The app's color scheme uses orange and purple accent colors and gray for backgrounds. Gradients are used for buttons and interactive elements.

App Screens

The main task in developing the design of the screens was to make them as simple and understandable as possible. The athlete must move quickly within the application and not experience difficulty. The main screens of the application are the base of elements with a filter, profiles of athletes and user ratings.

Social Media

Many ad layouts were developed for the app's social media prior to launch in order to attract as many interested gymnasts as possible. Once launched, social networks are the main platform for spreading information about new features or app news. Therefore, interesting videos and static layouts are developed for the audience.

Apparel

A design of sweatshirts and t-shirts with the app logo was developed for the startup team and app fans. Black and white variations of the logo are used on clothing with an inscription.
