Il Cilento da millenni ha ispirato poeti e cantori. Molti dei miti greci e romani sono stati ambientati sulle sue coste.
Il mito più famoso è quello dell'isola delle sirene, nell'Odissea. Quelle creature malefiche che, secondo Omero, irradiavano un canto che faceva impazzire i marinai di passaggio, portandoli a schiantarsi con le imbarcazioni sugli scogli.
L'isoletta che ispirò il Cantore dell'antichità probabilmente è quella di fronte a Punta Licosa, a sud nei pressi di Castellabate.
Di fronte al suo mare Ulisse si fece legare all'albero di maestra per ascoltare quell'ingannevole canto.

Cilento has inspired poets and singers for millennia. Many of the Greek and Roman myths were set on its shores.
The most famous myth is that of the island of the sirens, in the Odyssey. Those evil creatures that, according to Homer, radiated a song that drove the passing sailors crazy, leading them to crash with their boats on the rocks.
The islet that inspired the Cantore of antiquity is probably the one in front of Punta Licosa, to the south near Castellabate.
