Roald Dahl Book Cover Redesigns

Roald Dahl Book Cover Redesigns

The goal of the project was to cohesively redesign a series of book covers for an existing series or a set of titles from the same author. These three book cover redesigns were created to encapsulate the creativity, whimsicality, and imaginative sequences that one experiences when reading Roald Dahl’s books. The designs of the models were hand-made, with the compositions being created in cardboard boxes that were then photographed and transferred over to Photoshop to create the mockups and InDesign to create the jackets. Motifs throughout the designs include the cardboard elements, shredded paper, twinkling lights, and a bokeh effect. The first cover features the BFG’s dream jars, the second features Matilda levitating letters, and the third features the entrance to Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory. The spines include an element from each cover (a star, Matilda, and Wonka’s hat). The back of each cover continues the imagery used on the front, creating a cohesive and pleasing design.
