Fishing is one of the most popular recreation activities in Oregon. The state has many water bodies including, rivers, freshwater lakes, and scenic reservoirs. Some of the popular fish species found in the state include pacific halibut and coho salmon.

The pacific halibut (Hippoglossus stenolepis) is the largest pacific flatfish that can weigh up to 500 pounds and measure up to 8 feet long. It is of the righteye flounder species. During the spawning seasons, usually between November to march, mature halibut migrate toward deep waters to lay their eggs. Part of the things that determine the growth rate of the fish is its location and habitat. Generally, females grow faster than males.

The coho salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch) is anadromous fish species of the salmon family and measures averagely at about 9.4cm long. They are also known as silver salmon. It spends most of its life in the pacific and the rest in freshwater. The mature salmon migrate to freshwaters from around November to February, where they spawn in the same streams they began their lives. The fish is a good source of omega-3 fatty acids, potassium, and B vitamins, among other nutritional benefits.
