Patterning: Vintage Bulb Repeat

So sometime back I doodled all of these vintage filiment bulbs on a random piece of papwe and got very exvited about making them into some sort of repeat. I added in some random cords and metal cages just in case it would help with the pattern.
Below is the first pass at a really simple grid-based repeat, which I DID love, but was worried that it was too simple.
Below is a further exploration in to the pattern, adding in those cages and some more organic triangles. Although this pattern feels mature and different and all...I didn't love it.
Recently I decided that it was time to get back to the original line art and make the design more fun! After working on a similar pattern all about watercolors and minerals/geodes/crystals, I started watercoloring these little swatches:
And voila! Here's the original inked line work over the new watercolor swatches in a much more organic, less grid-like repeat. Hope you like it!
