In this picture book Mauro, a little blue whale, tells about his life: from the moment of conception and development in his mother’s belly, his birth, right to the adventure in which he discovers that people are whales’ greatest enemies and also greatest friends.
When his school is attacked by whalers he manages to escape but a harpoon rope winds around his tail and he cannot swim. Whale protectors come to help him and his mother and help free them. Mauro grows up into a free young blue whale, and his school has to give him a name connected with some very important event in his life: In honor of his saviors he is named after their small ship.
The story includes a little glossary that additionally explains the life of whales, whether they are fish or mammals, what they eat, what endangers them, why it is important to protect them and how to do it.
The picture book Mauro won the prize “Sheep in the box” for the best Croatian picture Book and mention of Grigor Vitez Prize in 2014.
