PODOLYANKA APARTMENTS
KYIV 2021 (realization)
The living room was designed to be spacious so that the owners could spend their evenings in the company of friends. The kitchen island gently divides the cooking space and the conditional dining area, which in turn transitions to the lounge area. It was decided to combine the dining table with the island in order to fix the optimal composition of the furniture and avoid unnecessary permutations. Wooden window sills can serve as additional seating in the living room.
In addition to the spacious living room and the separate bedroom, the clients needed a large storage area - for equipment needed for regular business trips. The reaction to this request leads us to the key element of space - black box (or as we called it in the process - aquarium). In order not to place massive cabinets and not to reduce the already small physical space, we decided to raise the bed as high as possible to the ceiling, leaving, however, a comfortable height to stay. The entire space below, instead, was arranged for storage.
The bedroom with glass partitions and curtains, allows to isolate yourself, creating a chamber atmosphere, or, conversely, to fully open the glazing and enjoy the combined space. Stairs to the bedroom serve as shelves for books, and transit separates the sofa from the wall, providing a more comfortable space.
We attempt to make the kitchen visually clean, minimalistic, without unnecessary elements. The niche with sliding matte-glass partitions perfectly hides various kitchen objects and well carries out a role of an apron. For convenience, we installed the dish drying area next to the sink and abandoned the upper cabinets, which can visually overload the space. We hid all household appliances (microwave, oven, kettles, etc.) inside the kitchen island. As a result, on the visible surfaces of the kitchen we have almost no elements that can be annoying.
We left the open brick walls in the rooms on purpose, as a reminder of the respectable age of the building, because this brick is about a hundred years old.
The corridor was also designed minimalistic, not overloaded with unnecessary details. Concealed mounting doors, in fact, merge with the surface of the wall. The accents here are the wardrobe, behind the glass partition, and the design of cabinet for outerwear and shoes at the entrance. Wardrobe lighting creates an interesting pattern on the walls.
In the child's room, we also raised the bed to the level of the mezzanine, creating a cozy bedroom with a comfortable staircase. The large bench under the stairs, in addition to storage, can serve as an extra bed, where the nanny can spend the night. For clients it was important, but did not want to put another bed, so we came to such a minimalist decision.

In the children's and adult bedrooms, we have placed the author's panels - organizers, which the owners will be able to adjust to their requests and change at any time. It is a system of perforations and modular hooks and shelves.
