OPPORTUNITY
Create a cohesive Great Designers of History DVD series for Plexifilm.
SOLUTION
I chose the sixities, which included Herb Lubablin, Milton Glaser, Paula Scher, and Seymour Chwast. I wanted to get to their core - what were they all about? What unifying thought united these diverse creatives? As I researched, I found a thirst for discovery and constant learning underlying their statements. They all wanted to keep growing, and growth was an adventure. Thus, the series became "Constant Discovery", and each designer has an icon that associates with a part of adventuring that relates to a statement they made about design itself. I paired the icons with psychadelic design trend from sixties poster design, and then hand-rendered everything.
Each back cover has a three-word phrase that summarizes their statement on design, which fuels the illustration for the cover.
Each DVD has an insert that is a die-cut of their adventure icon, with their full statement rendered on the back.
