THE EMPEROR AND THE FLOWER

Illustrated by Alenka Sottler

There lived an emperor who preferred to visit his gardens rather than treasures in the treasury. He knew every bouquet in them, every shade of pink, and the scent of every flower.
When he woke up in the morning, he ran to the greenhouse in his shirt to see what was new and blossomed in him overnight. And if it ever happened that the court was waiting for him with lunch, it was certainly because he lingered too long among the flowers in the garden.
