PIMS-TS illustrated leaflet for children

Illustrated 'child-friendly' patient information leaflet on Paediatric Inflammatory Multisystem Syndrome, temporally associated with COVID-19 (PIMS-TS)
Paediatric Inflammatory Multisystem Syndrome, temporally associated with COVID-19 (PIMS-TS), is a relatively new condition that emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic.

I underwent a 4 month post at Alder Hey Children's Hospital as a Foundation Year One Doctor on General Paediatrics. Alder Hey has a team of Cardiologists, Rheumatologists, Infectious Diseases consultants and General Paediatricians among others, who coordinate the care of PIMS-TS patients across the region. As it is a new condition and the evidence base constantly evolving, there is little information regarding the condition. I wanted to combine my medical knowledge and illustration skills to develop a child-friendly patient information leaflet about PIMS-TS.

This was created in collaboration with Consultants involved in the PIMS-TS multi-disclipinary team and Lorna O'Brien (Play Specialist). It was peer reviewed by the young people from the Alder Hey Youth Forum.

Peer review

I presented the leaflet to Alder Hey Youth Forum, a platform made up of children and young people aged 9-19 years, who work as partners with staff at Alder Hey Children's Hospital to champion change, influence policy and ensure the voices of young people are heard.

The following feedback was received in a focus group in March 2022:
